The hidden cause of depression and chronic fatigue
17th August 2005
How's this for an introduction...
'When my Dad went to the toilet it was like a gas attack in the First World War. We would rush outside gasping and choking for air. Even the dog ran outside!'
Now, you might think I've just met Bernard Manning, or I've been watching Carry On films for the past few days.
But in fact, this was a confession from a chap called Ron Gellatley, a remarkable Naturopath, Nutritionist, Medical Herbalist and Homeopath.
Over the years Ron's helped thousands of patients overcome dozens of ailments, from headaches and bad skin to back pain, liver problems,
chronic fatigue and even prostate cancer.
And, of course, Ron's main focus is getting the insides working correctly. He believes that the major cause of ageing, loss of energy and ill health is an internal system that's not working properly.
Today, Ron has very kindly agreed to let us in on a few of his secrets of a long, healthy life (don't worry... I don't think he'll be talking about his Dad again!), so without further ado, I'll leave Ron to clear up one of the most common complaints of modern life...
----------------------------------------------
Dear Doctor... Why do I feel so depressed?
----------------------------------------------
|
How many times do you think your doctor hears that question?
Enough times to get through twenty prescription pads?
More?
Sometimes it seems that the whole world is depressed (unless you read The Good Life Letter that is!)
Just look at people walking down the street.
How many do you see with head held high, eyes sparkling with enthusiasm, walking briskly? Not many I'll bet.
They're like a car that gets them to their destination, but with poor acceleration, heavy fuel consumption and wonky steering.
And because they're feeling flat, exhausted and lacklustre, they think they feel depressed.
But in lots of cases, the depression is just a case of the liver not doing its job properly.
Yes, that's right... the LIVER is often the real culprit!
And taking a load of anti-depressants is only going to make the liver worse, because it has to break down the chemicals contained in the drug.
And your poor liver is already under a tonne of pressure to help you through each day...
----------------------------------------------------------
Your liver is probably the most overworked organ in your body
----------------------------------------------------------
Did you know your entire blood supply goes through your liver every twenty minutes?
It filters out any impurities floating around inside us, and packs them off to your bowel for disposal... but ONLY if it's working properly.
So it might be a good idea for you to recognise when your liver needs a friend.
Here are some common markers you should look out for:
- When you notice your stools are very light, it's a sign that your liver is not sending bile to break down fat. It's bile that gives stools their brown colour.
- Another obvious sign is when the smell of cooking makes you sick.
|
Your appetite nosedives and the idea of eating makes your stomach flip.
- Something else you should look out for is a pain just below the right shoulder blade. This is a real danger sign of a liver or gallbladder that is crying out for help, so don't ignore it.
But not so obvious are the mental symptoms. Here's where we get into murky waters, folks...
Depression, irritability, tearfulness, given to outbursts of rage, no motivation, lethargy... these can all be mental symptoms but are also signs that your liver has had enough, and is turning against you.
So before you resort to anti-depressants, give your liver a helping hand with dandelion, milk thistle, barberry, bayberry, blue flag and schizandra, plus two important amino acids... methionine and taurine.
You'll find most of these ingredients in one complex at your local health food store.
If you start looking after your liver, then you will start to look terrific, feel terrific and BE terrific!
