Is it really possible to rub out back pain in seconds...?

11 September 2005

You know me, I'm not one to moan...

Oh come on! Not that much anyway!

But I have to say, my back is still causing me A LOT of pain.

Mowing the lawn is out of the question and I still can't carry heavy shopping two things that upset me deeply.

And I can barely make it down to the pub.

So the time has come to throw myself into my research to discover the most effective, fastest remedies that really work. In fact, I'm prepared to try ANYTHING to shift it.

Here are my latest discoveries...

--------------------------------------------------------
The ancient healing process that rubs away back pain in 30 seconds
--------------------------------------------------------

Acupressure is a treatment that involves pressing specific points on the body to relieve pain, reduce stress, to promote general good health...

And to ease back pain.

Hallelujah!

It's been around for ages, but for some reason that I can't find an explanation for, it doesn't seem to get as much attention as acupuncture.

I guess the idea of someone having needles stuck in them is simply more entertaining.

In fact, I remember my Mum talking about acupuncture once, in the same tone you'd use to tell a ghost story.

All that was missing was a clap of thunder.

But you can come out from behind the sofa now - acupressure works on the same principal as acupuncture but without the needles. And according to some sources, you can ease pain in as little as 30 seconds!

Here's what you need to do:

Locate the sore point with your finger or thumb.
Apply pressure to the point or by making small rotations for 30 seconds.
Release the pressure.
Repeat this touchpressrelease sequence for another 30 seconds.
Repeat the whole sequence two or three times a day until you feel better.

Alternatively you can find out more about acupressure at this website: acupressure

Ladies! Here's something to tell your husband shopping for shoes might help ease back pain!
------------------------------------------------------

All right, relax chaps... I lied a little.

It's not the shopping for shoes that helps ease back pain, it's the shoes themselves.

Or to be more specific, a certain kind of shoe called Earth shoes.

Earth shoes were developed in the 1950s by a Danish Yoga instructor called Anne Kalso, to mimic the action of walking barefoot in the sand and on uneven terrain.

Apparently that's what our bodies are designed for, not all this pesky concrete that we walk on nowadays.

The unique shape of the shoe keeps the toes up, the body leaning slightly backwards, the stomach pulled in, and the spine straightened into proper alignment.

This realignment has now been scientifically proven to produce many health benefits and cure many modern ailments, often caused by walking incorrectly!

Is this why the Roman Empire really collapsed?
---------------------------------------------------------

Comfrey is a herb that has been cultivated since about 400 BC.

Greeks and Romans used comfrey to stop heavy bleeding, treat bronchial problems, and heal wounds and broken bones. Poultices were made for external wounds and tea was consumed for internal ailments.

Doesn't that sound fantastic.

But beware...

In one report I found, it suggests that comfrey may be carcinogenic.

In certain studies it appeared to cause liver damage and cancerous tumours in rats.

Now, unlike the Vitamin B6 scare that I told you about on Friday, this causes me real concern.

So instead, of trying comfrey, I'm going to up my intake of this little fella...

The common supermarket food that beats pain

The next time you're doing your weekly shop, pop a fresh pineapple into your basket.

Pineapples are high in the enzyme bromelain, which is a natural anti-inflammatory and encourages healing. What's more, we know what we're dealing with here.

Not even the EU can try to ban pineapples...

Can they?

Turn to the Devil for help!
-----------------------------

Devil's claw is a plant native to southern Africa found growing naturally in the Kalahari desert, Namibia, the island of Madagascar and a few other locations.

Its name comes from the herb's unusual fruits, which are covered with numerous small claw-like appendages. But forget about them. It's the roots that are so effective as a herbal remedy.

The main active ingredients in Devil's claw are Harpogoside and Beta sitosterol, which possess anti-inflammatory properties and create support for joint, ligament and tendon problems.

Devil's claw can be used to make a tea. Go to you local health food shop for supplies.

Right, I'm afraid that's it for today. I've promised the kids a trip into town and a pizza. I'll order my usual - a Four Seasons - with extra pineapple and Devil's Claw, perhaps?

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and I'll be back again next week.

Take care, and good health!

Yours truly,

Ray Collins
