Three things to protect your health this winter

14th December 2008

* If you haven't got this in your house this winter, you
should get one NOW and protect your whole family

* The boozy way to better health

I've just discovered ANOTHER great way to lose
weight and keep trim?

Ranting.

After Friday's letter, where I took my frustrations at
never having been picked to captain the Welsh rugby
team out on the fast food industry, I went for a little
swim.

And I MEAN little. Just changing into my trunks has
me leaning against my locker taking in deep gulps of
air.

So after my Olympic effort of ten lengths (I'm like a
wind-up toy; I go crazy for ten lengths then sputter
and come to a standstill), I weighed myself in the
changing rooms, and I'm 3lbs lighter than I was last
month.

Now, it can't be the swimming. I only go to the baths
about once every six weeks. And I'm not sure it's the
walking or cycling, because I've been doing both of
those things regularly now for months, and my
weight's been pretty much the same all of last year.

But I HAVE been moaning about things quite a bit
recently?

The lack of snow in Bristol, the fact that a set of
window shutters we ordered don't fit, my home alarm
going off three times in a month, fast food shops?

...they've all had a bashing.

Still, according to one report I've read, having a good
rant can burn up to 50 calories a minute. I wonder if
bashing away at a keyboard while I'm writing these
letters does the same trick?

AND, venting your anger and letting it loose in a good
old moan has been shown to prevent stress and help
you relax.

In which case I must be the most relaxed man in
Britain.

But at least I managed to shake off the cold? I mean
MAN FLU? that I was starting to suffer from last
week.

And it was the easiest thing I'd ever done?
If you haven't got this in your house this winter,
you should get one NOW and protect your whole
family

'Honey is better at treating children's coughs than an
ingredient used in many over-the-counter medicines'
,
proclaimed The Daily Telegraph on Dec 4th, 2007.

Almost immediately, every Good Life reader sighs
and says 'Yes, we already know that'.

Honey is one of those old wives remedies that is so
OBVIOUSLY effective most of us don't bother with
the science.

It just works.

But this story from the Telegraph was still welcome,
because at least it got the message out to the masses.

The researchers behind this story found that children
who took honey syrup had improved sleep, a reduction
in coughing frequency and a less bothersome cough.
The results were as effective as dextromethorphan, the
key ingredient in pricey, mass-produced cough syrups.

Honey, of course, is much less expensive and more
natural.

And it works on adults to. Even whingers like me.

Here are a couple of remedies you can try yourself:
The boozy way to better health

- Soak an ounce of dried thyme in a cup of boiled
water, covered, until cool. Strain, then mix the
liquid with a cup of honey. Now put this into a
glass jar and store it in the fridge (it keeps for
several months). Take a teaspoon of this syrup
several times a day as needed.

- Take some freshly chopped basil leaves, some
crushed raw ginger and add to hot water. Now stir
in a teaspoonful of honey and, once cool enough,
drink slowly. This will sort out both colds and sore
throats.

- Squeeze the juice of a fresh lemon into a large
mug. Add hot water. Stir in two teaspoons of
honey. Breathe in the steam for a few minutes,
inhaling through your nose. Now drink. The added
option that your doctor won't ever recommend ? a
splash of whiskey. This kills the germs dead.

'Oh Ray,' I hear you cry, 'They sound absolutely
marvellous. If only I could have more remedies like
this to hand, to use whenever I wanted, my life would
be perfect.'

Well for once I've already thought ahead, and have
made sure you can have the most powerful health
compendium on uses for honey all in one place.
In fact this little book covers THREE of the most
amazing natural ingredients you'll ever come across -
honey, garlic and vinegar. And the book I'm talking
about is my own mini-opus, called The Honey, Garlic
and Vinegar Miracle.

I know I've told you about this before, but I really
think every Good Lifer should have one (I wouldn't
have wasted 9 months of my life doing all the research
and putting this book together if I didn't think it could
help you).

So if you haven't read it yet, why not give it a go? If
you give it a look through and don't like it, just send it
back and you'll get your money back in full.

I've even spent time on the design of this book so that
it would make a great stocking filler. Really, even my
friend's teenage kids thinks it looks 'wicked' (which I
hope is a compliment).

So if you're stuck for a little prezzie, or just want to
know dozens of ways honey, garlic and vinegar can
strengthen your health against all sorts of things (and
some will really surprise you), then it's well worth a
minute of your time to take a gander at this:

HGV MIRACLE

Okay, that's me done for today. Enjoy the remainder
of your weekend, and I'll be back again next week.
