THE WAY WE LIVE IS DESTROYING OUR KIDNEYS
By John Lloyd
Beer. Coffee. Cola. Most of us drink one or more of these popular beverages every day.
What harm can it do?
Plenty that's what I've recently discovered by speaking to three people who have bitter, first hand experience.... people with kidney disease.
I've learned about kidney disease from disturbing accounts stories that have opened my eyes to the dangers lurking behind some of our most common lifestyle choices.
My eyes were first opened at the gym, and I hope you'll take a couple of minutes to listen to my story. Because it really could save your life!
I'd been for my Saturday am workout as usual, and was enjoying my 'reward' a nice hot sauna. You know how it goes in the sauna... people start chatting. On this day, there was a middleaged fellow and also two women 'of a certain age' in the sauna with me.
One of the women commented to the man, 'I know water is good for you, but I see you drinking so much of it it seems to be gallons.'
The man replied, 'For me, it's a matter of life and death. I only have one kidney, and it's vital for me to keep it functioning well.'
He went on to describe how he had always been a big beer drinker not an alcoholic, mind you. Just fond of beer as a cool and refreshing bevvie especially on hot days.
In fact, he'd been drinking beer on a daily basis for over 15 years when his doctor told him that so much acid waste had built up in his kidneys, that the worse of the two would have to be removed or his life would be at risk.
This alarming story prompted the woman to reveal that she recently found blood in her urine.
A trip to the doctor and subsequent tests revealed some serious health problems including pancreas trouble, Type II Diabetes and damaged kidneys. Her doctor said that a lifetime of drinking fizzy cola was a contributing factor.
I was blatantly eavesdropping, to be sure! But I couldn't believe my ears when the second woman volunteered her health horror story. She said that her GP had discovered that her low back pain was due to a buildup of uric acids, phosphates and waste materials in her kidneys.
I had to ask.... 'What do YOU drink?'
'Coffee', she replied.
'Cups and cups every day it's been keeping me going since I was a teenager.'
Now I never thought that beer, cola and coffee were 'health drinks'. I'm not crazy! But I never in my wildest dreams imagined that drinking these three popular beverages could have such devastating health consequences.
I felt like gulping down a litre of water on the spot!

------------------------------------------------------------------
Just WHY do we have so much kidney disease today?
------------------------------------------------------------------
The answer is.... lifestyle... lifestyle... lifestyle.
Kidney disease can take the form of kidney stones, bladder diseases, uremic poisoning and nephritis. All these have a common cause - the things that we eat and drink.
So how did beer, cola and coffee cause the kidney problems of the three people I met in the sauna? Yes, these drinks do contain water. But they also contain sugar, alcohol and caffeine. And what is so terrible about these... in moderation?
They all DEHYDRATE the body!
Experts now agree that drinks containing caffeine act as powerful diuretics.
|
This means you have to urinate more often. Sugary drinks raise the blood sugar level which also depletes the body of water - increasing dehydration.
As you drink more of these beverages, your body becomes increasingly 'thirsty' - and resorts to drawing water from the cells to eliminate the toxins contained in these drinks. More dehydration.
----------------------------------------------------
Facts that may surprise - and alarm you!
----------------------------------------------------
Statistics now reveal that kidney disease is one of the world's top ten causes of death, and what's more... the occurrence of kidney stones has increased by ten times since the beginning of the last Century.
Why? Think about our diet - and how it has changed since the early 1900s. We consume greater and greater amounts of animal fats and proteins, and dramatically less vegetables and protein when compared to our ancestors just a few generations back.
When the body metabolizes protein, sulphur and phosphorus (contained in most proteins) are retained as acid, and must be neutralized by ammonia and alkaline minerals before the kidneys can eliminate them.
Did you ever wonder why your first trip to the loo in the morning results in urine that is darker in colour, and has a stronger smell than during the rest of the day?
The reason for this is that your blood has been busy overnight - transporting the waste from the food you eat to the kidneys. It is then the job of your kidneys to remove all the neutralized waste salt, uric acid and ammonia from your body. Thus, your first pee in the morning shows the result of all this nocturnal overtime work!
This also explains why men and women over 50 often have to rise in the night with the urgent need to urinate. Their ageing kidneys are working hard to get the job done, and send out an alert to 'go' - so they can continue!
----------------------------------------------
How to protect your kidneys
----------------------------------------------
So what can you do to protect your kidneys and avoid the dangers of kidney stones, kidney damage - or even kidney failure?
THE FIRST KEY: Drink lots and lots of water - at least 2 litres every day. Most people drink far less than this - and you really need to count the glasses. It's about 8.
Nothing you can do is more important than drinking lots of water. By taking in a substantial quantity of fresh water every day, you will help to prevent kidney stones because... WATER helps prevent accumulation of the minerals and salts that can form stones. It does this by diluting the urine.
THE SECOND KEY: Cut down on animal fats, starches and carbohydrates in your diet. Yes, this means that the current top diet craze for high protein has to go! And you know which one I'm talking about! Forget piling your plate with bacon and steak, unless you want to kidney dialysis to feature in your future!
THE THIRD KEY: Use 'Kidney-Pure' every single day. Scientifically formulated on the back of exhaustive research carried out in highly controlled laboratory conditions, this 100% natural product will help cleanse, repair and maintain strong kidney function - all your life!
