Why the 30th April could spell an end to your freedom |
20th April 2007 |
Imagine a world where natural herbs and supplements are OUTLAWED. Where natural vegetable juice is classed as a DRUG. Where health food stores are stripped of all their products and banned from selling anything stronger than a cup of water. Where naturopaths are FORBIDDEN to practise their craft... imprisoned or fined when they try to pass on their knowledge... Where people with cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer's aren't allowed to seek ou ..

How nuts can revitalise your brain |
23rd March 2007 |
Forgive me if you're one of my most loyal readers… So much that you know the names of my kids, my favourite rugby player, and what I'm wearing NOW. (No, it's not “nothing”…. I'm actually wearing a cardigan that has been described by many admirers as 'snazzy'.) But in case you didn't read it in a previous letter… Last year, my father was diagnosed with having senile dementia. It's in its early stages but, of course, being a health researcher ..

Why the sweet shop could help you live longer |
16th March 2007 |
Sometimes I think scientists decide to conduct a study specifically with me in mind… Really. Some of their research seems so bizarre, you'd think there were hundreds of scientists sitting around all day, scratching their eggshaped heads, wondering what to study next... 'Hey, have we tested the effects of a wind tunnel on a chicken before?' 'Yeah, we did that one back in '97. The results were inconclusive.' 'Hmmmm... how about side effects of ..

Prevent unwanted hair growth… with tea |
2nd March 2007 |
It's one of the cruel ironies of life. Men spend their young years desperate for manly hair to appear... so we can shave like our dads, grow moustaches and fancy sideburns for the ladies... Then suddenly, before we know what's happening, we're old and desperate for the hair to stay on our heads. It literally falls off us as we do the gardening and worry about tax rates. Conclusion? Men LOVE hair. But hair HATES men. As for women... well ..

Harness the most powerful remedy in the world... |
11th February 2007 |
I've said it before and I'll say it again… Scientists don't know everything. In fact, sometimes they can be totally wrong about what's good and bad for us. It's hardly surprising. The body is such a complex and unique machine that trying to explain everything logically is a near impossibility. Take me for example... My garage has been full of my junk for years. Now, logically, I should clear it out. It would make my life so much easier. ..

Aches and pains? This could be the reason |
4th February 2007 |
Know how to put up a decent shelf? Then you're welcome round my house anytime, because my study or “clutterden” (as Lara calls it) is getting out of hand. As you know, I'm a compulsive reader, and I try to get my hands on as many alternative health books as I possibly can. But these things are everywhere… piled on the floor… up to desk-height! So I need a new shelf. But as my wife can tell you, my DIY is a bit like my computer skills. Until ..

Will Al Capone be your new doctor…? |
10th November 2006 |
Imagine the scene… You pop down to your doctor's, he slips you a voucher for the local curry house and says “I insist you eat out at Sheesh Mahal once a week. Don't worry, the NHS will foot the bill. You just enjoy yourself”. Wouldn't that be marvellous? No, this isn't one of my vivid dreams where the world is made of chocolate and I have to keep telling Raquel Welch to stop bothering me, because I'm happy with Lara. (Raquel Welch… I'm givi ..

Why November can ruin your health |
3rd November 2006 |
I swear this time of year is going to kill me one day. You know how during fireworks season, dogs get agitated and start leaping about when the explosions begin? That's what I'm like. Sudden loud cracks and explosions send me whistling into the air faster than the rockets themselves. I don't mind watching a fireworks display. I know the BANG is coming. But kids are launching these things in urban areas from the end of October til December. ..

The hidden danger of pill-strike… |
15th September 2006 |
There's a serious health problem that I'd never come across before until yesterday… It's not something you read about. I'm guessing it's not something most people hear about either… In fact, unless you have first hand experience of this, it's probably not struck you at all. Yet I'm sure it's a problem that hundreds… no, thousands of people have to face every day. And as of yesterday, I'm included in that number. So what am I talking about… ..
